Masters Gather! Results of the 12th Forwell Cup Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Finals Announced

The 12th Forwell Cup National Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Competition, themed “Roaming in the Charm of Ink,” held its group finals on July 27. Calligraphy and seal engraving experts from across the country gathered to showcase their skills and compete. This year’s competition received over 2,000 entries, divided into seven groups for the preliminary rounds, with 50 participants from each group (30 for the seal engraving group) advancing to the finals. Guided by the Changhua County Cultural Bureau and sponsored by Forwell Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. and Cheng Da Guang Ming Pen and Ink Co., the event was organized by the Changhua County Calligraphy Association, with co-organizers including the Yuanlin City Office, Yuanlin Home Economics and Commerce Vocational High School, Forwell Lions Club, and Happy Seal Society. The final works were evaluated on-site by a professional judging panel of calligraphy and seal engraving experts from northern, central, and southern Taiwan, led by Professor Shih-Chiung Hsiao. The final results were announced, and an awards ceremony was held on the same day.

On the day of the finals, Forwell Technology Group President Wen-Lung Hsiao, Changhua County Calligraphy Association Chairman Chao-Hsun Wu, and other dignitaries attended to cheer on the finalists. Notable guests, including Changhua County Cultural Bureau Director Chueh-Fen Chang, Changhua County Councilor Pei-Yu Shih, Yuanlin Mayor Fu-Chih Lai, Changhua County Government Secretary Pei-Jan Lai, Forwell Lions Club Founding President Chia-Hui Lo, Former President Li-Ching Shih, and Current President Ya-Ling Hung, were invited to deliver remarks and present awards.

The 12th Forwell Cup National Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Competition was divided into seven groups for the finals: Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, Junior High, Senior High/College, Social, Senior, and Seal Engraving. The judging panel conducted a rigorous evaluation and selection process, selecting the top three and 10 honorable mentions (five for the seal engraving group) in each category. In addition to certificates, winners received cash prizes, with the first-place prize reaching up to NT$12,000.

The first-place winners of the 12th Forwell Cup finals were: Chia-Jung Liu (Senior Group), Chi-Hsiang Wu (Social Group), Wei-Ching Wu (Senior High/College Group), Tsung-Yen Tsai (Junior High Group), Yi-Chen Liu (Upper Elementary Group), Ting-Erh Tsai (Lower Elementary Group), and Huang-Tien Lin (Seal Engraving Group).

Chao-Hsun Wu, Chairman of the Changhua County Calligraphy Association, stated that “calligraphy” is a treasure of Chinese culture, while “seal engraving” combines the artistry of ink and the precision of the blade, both embodying profound cultural heritage and artistic vitality. The competition aims to promote traditional arts, ignite creative passion, and provide a platform for calligraphy and seal engraving enthusiasts to exchange ideas and refine their skills.

He further noted that during the event, he was delighted to see both seasoned calligraphers and young talents showcasing their passion and dedication to the art through exquisite works. While touring the venue, he observed that the entries were bold, powerful, and subtly expressive, reflecting the participants’ meticulous efforts, which were truly admirable. He expressed hope that calligraphy and seal engraving would continue to flourish and be passed down through generations with everyone’s efforts in preservation and promotion.

Forwell Group President Wen-Lung Hsiao emphasized that the Forwell Cup National Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Competition has become a prominent national calligraphy event. Now in its fourth year, the seal engraving category aims to further promote this art form through the competition’s platform, revitalizing seal engraving and ensuring the enduring legacy of Chinese cultural heritage for future generations.
